Treatments
Treatments used here
Chiropractic adjustment
What a chiropractic adjustment is, how the chiropractor decides which joint to work on, what it feels like, and what happens if it is not the right approach for you.
Spinal adjustments
A spinal adjustment is a controlled movement applied to one segment of the spine. How the segment is chosen, what the sound is, and when a lower-force approach is used.
Dry needling
What dry needling is, how it differs from acupuncture, what it feels like, and when it is used as part of chiropractic care in Brunswick West.
Massage therapy
Remedial massage used as part of chiropractic care, for the muscular guarding that builds around a restricted joint, and what it claims through your health fund.
Rehabilitation exercises
The exercises you take home are the part that works between appointments. How they're chosen, why the list is short, and what happens when they're too hard or too easy.
Sports chiropractic
Dr Hamilton Mack has worked with AFL footballers, Formula One champions and professional dancers, and is a competitive Ironman triathlete himself. What that means for an appointment.
Posture correction
Posture work is less about standing up straight than about how long you hold any one position. What the assessment looks at and what actually changes it.
Shockwave therapy
Shockwave is used here for long-standing tendon and fascia presentations that have not settled with hands-on treatment. What it is, what it feels like, and who it suits.
Pregnancy chiropractic
Dr Kenneth Taylor is certified in the Webster Technique and sees patients from early pregnancy into postnatal recovery. What changes, and what an appointment involves.
Paediatric chiropractic
Technique used with children bears no resemblance to what is used with adults. What an appointment involves, what it is used for, and where the limits are.
Children's posture
School bags, devices and growth spurts all load a young spine differently. What is worth assessing, what is normal variation, and what actually helps.
Chiropractic for older patients
Lower-force technique, chosen for bone density, medication and surgical history. What changes with age, and what the assessment needs to know first.
Ongoing and maintenance care
What ongoing chiropractic care is, who chooses it and who does not need it. An honest account of what maintenance visits are for and how often is reasonable.
Specific chiropractic technique for disc injuries
There is no decompression table here. What the chiropractors use for disc injuries is specific, hands-on technique, and this page explains exactly what that involves.

What to expect at your first appointment
Your first appointment is about understanding what's going on, what may be contributing to your symptoms, and what treatment options may be appropriate for you.
- Detailed health history. Your chiropractor will discuss your symptoms, what may have caused them, what makes them better or worse, and what you've already tried.
- Thorough physical assessment. Including posture, movement, muscle and joint function.
- Orthopaedic and neurological screening. Where clinically appropriate, to help assess your condition and identify any factors that may require further investigation.
- Clear explanation of findings. Your chiropractor will explain what they find in straightforward, easy-to-understand language and discuss your options.
- Treatment, if appropriate. Where clinically indicated and you're comfortable proceeding, treatment can begin during your first appointment.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
What happens at a first appointment?
A full health history, a physical assessment covering posture and movement, muscle and joint testing, and an orthopaedic and neurological screen. The chiropractor explains what they found before anything else happens, and treats on the day where it is clinically appropriate to proceed.
Do I need a referral?
No, not to book or to claim on private health cover. A referral is only needed where a third party is paying, a Medicare care plan, or WorkSafe, the TAC or DVA.
How do I know which chiropractor to see?
Book with anyone. The three chiropractors here have different backgrounds, functional neurology and pregnancy care, sports, hands-on manual adjusting, and they refer between themselves when someone else in the practice is the better fit. Reception can also point you.
What if chiropractic is not the right answer for me?
The chiropractors screen for that at the assessment and will say so rather than treat. If specialist care is the next step, you will get a detailed letter setting out the findings and recommendations, including the specialist we believe is best suited to your needs.
