What it covers

What people book this appointment about

The first appointment is the assessment that establishes whether chiropractic suits what you are dealing with. If it does not, your chiropractor will tell you at that appointment and refer you to the practitioner who is the better fit.

Before you book

Not sure a chiropractor is the right call?

That is the question the first appointment answers.

Your chiropractor takes the history, tests what the symptoms point at, and tells you what they found. Where chiropractic is a sensible fit they will explain the options and what they expect. Where it is not, they will say so, and say what would suit it better.

There are no packages here and nothing to sign. You decide what happens after you have heard the findings, not before.

Why here

What $78 gets you

  • A full 30 minutes

Long enough for your chiropractor to take a full history, test what needs testing, and still have time to talk it through with you.

  • You hear the findings first

Your chiropractor explains what they found and what is likely driving it before anything is treated, in plain language rather than clinical shorthand.

  • Credentials in the open

Registration numbers and qualifications for every chiropractor here, published on their own profile.

  • Here since 1990

One clinic on Melville Road for more than three decades, with three chiropractors practising across six days a week.

  • Treatment on the day, in most cases

Where the assessment is clear and there is nothing that makes treatment unsuitable, it starts at this appointment rather than the next one, once you are happy to go ahead.

  • A referral to a local X-ray centre

Your chiropractor refers to radiology centres that bulk bill, so with a valid Medicare card there is normally nothing to pay for the X-ray itself.

The appointment

What happens in the 30 minutes

  1. History, before hands

What hurts, when it started, what makes it worse, what you have already tried, and what you want to get back to doing. The screening questions sit here too, the ones that establish what kind of problem this is before anyone touches you.

  2. Physical and postural assessment

Movement testing joint by joint, and where your symptoms warrant it a neurological screen of reflexes, sensation and strength. Testing is what separates a back problem from a nerve problem, and the two are not managed the same way.

  3. Your findings, explained clearly

What is going on, what is driving it, and what it is likely to take to settle, in plain language, with time for questions. You leave the room knowing what the problem is and what happens next.

  4. Treatment, in most cases on the day

Where the picture is clear, hands-on treatment starts at this visit. Where imaging would settle something first, you are still treated with what is safe in the meantime, soft tissue work, gentle mobilisation, support, and specific advice on sitting, sleeping and pain control.

  5. What to do between now and next time

Two or three specific things, chosen from what your assessment showed and short enough that you will actually keep doing them. Movement, plus the load changes that hold it, how long you sit before standing, how you lift, how you sleep.

  6. A plan, and the milestones to measure it by

An expected number of visits and a rough timeframe, with the milestones to expect and roughly when. Progress is reviewed at every visit and the plan follows it, so you can see whether it is working and stay in control of it.

Treatment is provided when it is appropriate for your condition. Your first visit begins with a thorough assessment to understand what is causing your symptoms, establish a clear clinical picture and determine the most appropriate treatment for you.

The clinic

On Melville Road since 1990

The clinic has been at 66 Melville Road in Brunswick West for more than three decades, in an allied health building a few steps from the route 58 tram at stop 35.

There is street parking directly out front, and the opposite side of Melville Road is unrestricted at any hour. On the clinic's side you cannot park between 7:00am and 9:00am Monday to Friday, and that one is enforced, so for an appointment before 9:00am on a weekday, park across the road.

Questions

About the offer

What are the terms of the $78 offer?

It is for new patients at this clinic, one per person, and it covers the 30-minute initial consultation, item code 1002, in place of the published $125 fee. Mention the offer when you book, or bring this page up at the desk, so reception charges the offer price. Offers must be requested when booking or before payment and cannot be applied retrospectively. The discount cannot be taken as cash, it does not run alongside another offer, and it does not apply to anything from the shop. Appointments after the first are charged at the published fee. There is no closing date.

Is it a shorter or smaller appointment than the usual one?

No. It is the same 30-minute initial consultation the clinic publishes at $125: the same health history, the same physical assessment of posture and movement, the same muscle and joint testing, the same orthopaedic and neurological screen, and the same explanation of what your chiropractor found before anything is treated. The fee is what changes.

Will I be signed up to a treatment plan?

You will not be asked to commit to anything before you understand the findings. Your chiropractor explains what they found and what the options are, and tells you what they expect after the assessment rather than before it. There are no packages here, and if chiropractic is not the right fit for what you have, they will tell you that at the first appointment.

Do I need a referral?

No. Chiropractic is a primary contact profession in Australia, so you can book directly. Bring any imaging or reports you already have, along with your health fund card if you would like to claim at the desk.

Will I be treated at the first appointment?

In most cases, yes: where the picture is clear after the assessment and you are comfortable proceeding, treatment starts at that visit. Where something needs to be established first, your chiropractor will say so and explain what happens next.

Can I book the offer for someone else?

Yes. If you're booking for someone else, they can use the offer for their first appointment with us. Book online or call reception and we can arrange the appointment for you.

Can the offer be applied to an appointment I have already had?

It is applied at the appointment itself, so ask for it when you book or at the desk on the day and reception will charge the offer price. Offers, discounts and promotions must be requested when booking or before payment and apply only to the appointment for which they are requested. Offers cannot be applied retrospectively. If an appointment has already been completed and paid for at the published fee, the difference cannot be refunded or credited towards a later offer.
