More Information
It's shorter than the Thoracic Denneroll and flat on top, so the stretch through a rounded upper back is gentler and less focused. It's designed as the step before the Thoracic Denneroll.
Who it's for
The Retrainer is designed for an increased rounding of the upper back, the thoracic kyphosis, along with the forward head posture and rounded shoulders that often come with it. It's the introductory device for the early stages, when the peaked Thoracic Denneroll is too strong to start on.
It can sit at the upper, mid or lower thoracic spine, and your chiropractor decides which from a posture assessment and, where needed, X-rays.
How a session works
- Use it on the floor or a firm bench. A bed or a thick, spongy yoga mat is too soft for the stretch to work.
- Place it behind you, lower yourself onto it at the spot your chiropractor showed you, and relax over it.
- A slight bend in the knees is recommended at first. As you get used to it, straighten your legs for the most effect.
- Start at 3 minutes and add about a minute each session, building to 15–20 minutes by around the 17th session. If you can't reach a session's time, stay at it until you can.
- To get up, roll onto your side, remove the device and settle for a moment first.
- How often you use it, per day or per week, is set by your chiropractor.
Moving on to the Thoracic Denneroll
Once you're comfortable on the Retrainer, your chiropractor can move you to the Thoracic Denneroll, whose peak gives a more localised, stronger stretch.
