More Information
It's shaped to the low back's inward curve, the lumbar lordosis, so lying on it gives a gentle stretch into that curve while your body weight does the work. Your chiropractor sets which size you use and where it sits.
Who it's for
The lumbar Denneroll is designed for a low back that has lost some of its natural inward curve. Denneroll name lifting injuries, falls, poor posture and poor ergonomics as common contributors.
It can sit at the lower, mid or upper lumbar spine, and your chiropractor decides which from a posture assessment and, where needed, X-rays.
How a session works
- Use it on the floor or a firm bench. A bed or a thick, spongy yoga mat is too soft for the stretch to work.
- Lie down with your knees bent and a rolled towel under your neck, lift your back off the floor and lower yourself gently onto the device.
- The straighter your legs, the stronger the stretch. Start with your knees bent and straighten them as you get used to it.
- If it feels too strong, lay a folded towel or foam pad over the top.
- Start at 3 minutes and add about a minute each session, building to 15–20 minutes by around the 17th session. If you can't reach a session's time, stay at it until you can.
- To come off, bend your knees, lift your back, remove the device and lower yourself to the floor. Rest a moment before getting up.
- How often you use it, per day or per week, is set by your chiropractor.
Choosing a size
- Large (grey top): taller than about 175cm, a very flexible back, or an experienced user.
- Medium (white top): about 175cm and under, a stiffer back, or anyone starting out.
- Small (gold): children and smaller adults, or a stiff adult back.
- How your ribcage sits over your pelvis also affects the size, so your chiropractor will tell you which to use.
Good to know
- Made from EVA foam, with no latex or silicone.
- Developed by Australian chiropractor Dr Adrian Dennewald. Denneroll is based in New South Wales and designs its devices to be used under the guidance of a chiropractor or other spinal health professional.
- The first sessions can feel challenging, uncomfortable or mildly sore. Some people feel a sense of weakness or vulnerability when they get up, which Denneroll describe as normal and which settles.
- Stop and talk to your chiropractor before using it again if you notice increased pain, headache, dizziness, nausea, numbness, changes in your vision, weakness or loss of coordination.
